Poorly constructed, exposed and eroded banks are both unsightly and potentially dangerous and should be repaired as soon as possible to prevent the bank from collapsing into the water.
Depending on your budget and the amount of work required, we can offer a number of different techniques to help prevent erosion and/or repair the banks. The most cost effective preventative technique is planting as this helps to hold soil structures in place. We offer a wide range of planting options to suit your needs. In addition to helping prevent erosion, plants provide good coverage for waters and have the added bonus of adding tranquillity and beauty to existing waters. Aquatic plants also form a base layer within the lake’s ecosystem, providing an essential role in removing nitrates and ammonia whilst also providing the lake with oxygen which is essential for all living aquatic life. By reducing the nitrate levels this will help with weed growth within the pond.
We grow our own plants which we can deliver to site and plant in areas which will both look attractive and offer the necessary protection to the banks. We can carry out planting all year round, when conditions suit.
In addition to planting directly into the soil around the lake we can also plant using coir rolls. These are pre-planted with a mix of native pond plants which are already well established and therefore provide immediate benefits in terms of both enhancing the beauty of the venue and adding an immediate wildlife habitat to improve the sites biodiversity. They can also be strategically placed to cover unsightly liners or to stabilise lake edges.
